While it's not necessarily convenient for the couple to have to hand off their baby across the aisle for the duration of the flight, if it really mattered to them so much, they should have reserved the seats they wanted in advance. They cannot give the author the stink eye for wanting the seat he paid for.
Of course, we empathize with parents of newborns, who cannot always control their loud children. However, bringing their kid on the plane is not why they were in the wrong here. The egregious error was their assumption that a random stranger would “compromise” for a worse flight experience when he was already going to be sitting next to a noisy baby. If you want something from a total stranger, you have to consider what's in it for them!
